Ed Spiegel, founder of Rentmineonline.com, has a really cool concept working in his favor right now. Its the idea that people like to live with and nearby their friends.
If you like the apartment building that you live in and would like friends of yours to move into the complex RMO allows you to share your personal experiences with people you already know as they begin their apartment search. This creates a referral program that also plugs into the exisiting marketing budgets that Landlords and REITs have setup to acquire new tenants.
Right now we are plagued with substandard Craigslist.org. Although its free, the service does not have any social aspects. At the end of the day its really a P2P service. My history with CL is not too pretty. You never know what you are getting yourself into. People are pretty shady on CL and there are no monitoring systems.
We are on the verge of something new here with RMO. A referral system based around user experiences. I enjoy this concept and like the fact that Ed and his team are building it out. They are proving that its possible to find pleasurable living accomodations, while at the same time making money off the social graph.
