In my exploration of all things “pickled” and “local”, I have the opportunity to indulge in local delicacies on a weekly basis. There really are no shortage of kickshaw moments.

Recently I found a relatively-new pickle company based out of Alexander Valley in Sonoma County by the name of Sonoma Brinery. They have recently changed their name from Alexander Valley Gourmet. Their pickles are carried at my local favorite - Sonoma Market.

I must say, it was a great “Manhattan-Style” fresh pickle experience. Their brining process is very simple. Fresh ingredients, refrigeration and crunch. A good crunch too.

One thing I am curious about, is, What exactly is a manhattan-styled pickle? Does that mean its intended to be purchased at a deli? I mean this semi-rhetorically, since I did happen to live in NYC for the better part of the last decade, but alternatively I am always looking to expand my pickle knowledge.

Its particularly awesome that local folks are jumping on the pickle bandwagon. We need more people in this industry. Its high-growth, fun, exciting and entrepreneurial in nature. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah, you can eat what you sow…AND we have some of the best growing conditions in the country out here in the Sonoma/Marin areas.

More profiles to come. I am thinking about reaching out to the Sonoma Brinery and taking a proper tour of their premises.
